HGTV Ruined My Life

My wife is addicted to ALL of the shows on HGTV; every single one of them. After getting married, my DVR went from being filled with shows like Rescue Me, LOST, Fringe, and the occasional sports documentary or History Channel special I found interesting, to being filled with shows like House Hunters, Color Splash, My First Place, and the latest, Design Star. Each of the HGTV shows is a variation of either buying a new house or condo, or renovating a current space. Luckily, my wife is extremely settled in our place and never wants to move or change a thing about the way our house looks. (Insert THICK sarcasm here.)

Probably at least once a week I hear about how we need to paint the walls, rearrange furniture, or tear down a wall in our two bedroom condo to open the kitchen to the living room. Most of the time we go for a long walk with June and talk about all the reason we should or shouldn’t do any of these things and by the time we are back home (plus or minus an evening of me pushing the sofa to various areas of our 15 foot living room) we realize that we have things pretty well figured out and changes aren’t necessary right now. We should probably just wait until we purchase our next home and then we can do all the things we’ve wanted to do to a house.

Yesterday we hung out with my folks for the afternoon. We went with them to their new house and gave them our input on some of the decisions they are making in their new house. Then Gigi and I walked through a few of the model homes and talked about what we want in our next place and then we went to Room and Board in Costa Mesa to look at a few of the furniture pieces they were planning on putting in their house. It’s official; my life has turned into every show on HGTV.

After we got home last night we kept looking at the Room and Board catalog dreaming of stuff we could do to our house. Then we watched not one, but two episodes of Design Star. The final words my wife said to me before she turned over and went to sleep were, “I think we should use the Rothko painting in the dining room as inspiration for the rest of that space.” I am pretty sure that I had dreams of designing houses last night. This morning I can’t stop thinking of different ideas that we can do to our living room/dining room areas. Crap, I’m getting into this. Luckily there will probably be a few new tools involved.

It’s a good thing we both like DIY projects and enjoy spending time together, otherwise this could get ugly. Thank you HGTV for making me constantly insecure about the way my house looks and giving me a man-crush on David Bromstad, you have officially ruined my life.

Kobe, Fisher, Odom, Bynum, Sasha, Raddi, Farmar, Ariza...

Josh and I LOVE watching Laker games together, especially when accompanied by PIZZA, and by fellow laker fans (Angelo, Heather...). We always talk about going to a game together, but we had yet to make it up to LA for one. The Friday after Thanksgiving I decided to grab a set of tickets and surprise Josh with a trip up to the Staples center to see our Lakers kick butt in person. Unfortunately, the deal didn't come with pizza (stupid arena closed CPK for the night...), so it wasn't like every other Pizza/Basketball night of ours. We did manage to find oversized hot dogs, beers, and sodas at the game, though, so we were just fine. Although our seats were high up in the Staples' Center, we still had an awesome view of the court, and we got to see the Lakers come from behind with a shooting spree in the third quarter to take the game away from the Dallas Mavericks. Here are some pics of the evening. What a FUN night....!!

Driving to the game... I promise, I'm watching the road!

The Tickets!

Josh out in front of the Staples Center text-bragging to his friends about where we were and what we were doing...

The view from our seats. Pretty purple...pretty gold...Pretty Lakers...

This is as far as I could get my camera to zoom in...

Josh and I having a blast!

Laker Girrrrls....
We WON!!! I feel bad for whoever has to clean that mess up...

Nobody walks in L.A.

Well, this isn't L.A.! It's Orange County.  Even though gas prices have come down considerably, Gigi and I have recently learned that there are a few things within walking distance of her house.  The Aliso Viejo shopping center is only about a 30 minute walk away, Yogurtland - 15 minutes, Ralphs - 20 min, and who knows what else lies undiscovered.

We have started catching on to the fact that walking June for an hour or so tires her out enough that she is fairly calm at home for the rest of the night and it's not bad exercise for us.  Besides the exercise, it gives Gigi and I a chance to just talk.  We have walked miles during our relationship. Mostly because of June, but also because we realize how much it brings our relationship down to the basics.  Getting out of the house and just talking, without the distractions of T.V., the radio, and whatever else is going on, has been a great thing for us.  Almost every time we go on long walks together we come back and feel just a little refreshed about things.

Even though it's getting colder outside, I can see Gigi and I doing a lot more walking together.  I just need to get her a good jacket!  Maybe I can collect all the hair June sheds and make her one.  On second thought, that's a little gross.  I'll just find one in her closet.

Why so serious...?!

We saw Batman for the second time last weekend. This time, though........on IMAX. Wow! I don't quite appreciate the better sound and picture quality the way Josh can, but I can tell ya one thing--the Joker is scarier than normal when he's that much larger. When you have to turn your head from the left to the right just to see either end of his smile (which is huge, I know), its a little intimidating. I love the movie, but the best part of seeing it again was getting to really watch Heath Ledger's performance. Amazing.
Now that I've seen Batman twice (even though I loved both time), I figure that can count as "2 of Josh's movie nights", and therefore I can drag him to see "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" with me (for my second time...hahaha) and then to see "Nights in Rodanthe" (the latest movie by the author of The Notebook...and with Diane Lane and Richard Gere...now THAT'S going to be a real winner). HA, you think I'm joking...but I'm not. Get excited for the upcoming weekends, Honey!
